Kate Bohner
FOUNDER + CEO
Kate Bohner brings 25 years of experience to advise on vision – for an organization as a whole or one of its parts. She implements strategies and tactics to manage, motivate, and empower key audiences – staff, media, shareholders, and stakeholders alike – equipping clients to achieve new goals and targets, year over year.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988, Bohner took a position as a junior associate in the mergers and acquisitions department of Lazard Frères & Co. in New York, and later working in the London office. Three years later, intent on combining her experience in finance with her passion for writing, she enrolled at Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she won a Reader’s Digest Literary Foundation Award, and upon graduation joined Forbes magazine. In four years at Forbes, Bohner rose to associate editor and reinvented the then-flagging column “The Informer” while continuing to write for the Small Business, Healthcare, Marketing, and Investigative sections.
In 1997, Bohner was offered an opportunity to co-author with Donald Trump the best-selling Trump: The Art of the Comeback , which in the following year hit the New York Times (#3) and The Wall Street Journal (#1) best sellers list.
That same year, Kate joined CNBC to launch its widely-publicized marquee primetime news show “Business Center” with Maria Bartiromo and Tyler Mathison, while continuing to write original material and broadcast Kate Bohner’s Power File on Power Lunch.
As the tech boom peaked, Kate was recruited by E*Trade to be managing editor of digital financial media, where she hosted and co-wrote E*TRADE on AIR, a five-times daily web cast that also aired weekly on WNEW-FM.
Offered an opportunity to return to the financial sector, Kate took a position as managing director and chief operating officer at the Manhattan-based venture capital and advisory firm the Fort Hill Group. In 2001, Bohner joined two partners to raise the seed capital ($17.4 million solo) to co-found a medical technology start-up, Living Independently, Inc./QuietCare Systems (now Care Innovations), where she successively served as Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Eight years later, the company was successfully sold in a cash and stock transaction to GE Healthcare Intel, a $500 million joint venture between the parent companies.
In 2006, after receiving seed capital and financial backing from successful Silicon Valley investors, Bohner returned to her roots in media and launched a web-based show, Kate’s Take. On Christmas Day, the show hit #1 in 19 countries on YouTube. Bohner then moved the show to Los Angeles in 2008 and while she was there was honored for her work in raising awareness about Vesicovaginal Fistual (VVF) in Nigeria while spotlighting Physicians for Peace through video and internet content, receiving the 2008 PFP President’s Award for Special Achievement.
In 2010, she co-founded, launched and served as national director of a flourishing fitness program, FlyBarre with Flywheel Sports. Today, FlyBarre is offered in more than thirty cities on three continents.
In 2011, Bohner returned to Wall Street, as Chief Administrative and Chief Marketing Officer for World Trade Financial Group. Bohner led the team to launch a FINRA broker-deal – managing auditors, directors, administrators and working closely with on- and off-shore legal counsel. As the firm’s newly-appointed CMO, Bohner spent 12 months rebranding the parent company, as well as its three underlying broker dealers. World Trade’s most successful piece today is Clearpool Group, a trading software and execution innovator that comprises an agency broker-dealer and a state-of-the-art electronic trading, routing, compliance and risk solution provider.
The following year, Bohner brought her 20 years of experience to DMS Governance, where she served as Managing Director and Chief Communications, Research & Marketing Officer building comprehensive strategies to enhance DMS’ distinct identity and create targeted communications solutions to achieve measurable results. Kate continues to consult for DMS today.
Over the years, Kate’s passions have developed from athletics, to travel, to meditation. At the University of Pennsylvania, she co-captained the women’s lacrosse team, and in her senior year was an all-Ivy selection. In 1988 on a complete fluke, Kate was the last selection for the 18-woman United States World Cup Squad. Two decades later, she found herself traveling to Thailand to live in a monastery and was ordained as a Buddhist nun. A few years after that, Kate found herself teaching yoga and running meditation workshops at a transitional living home for women. Today, Kate’s come to understand that balance is everything. Kate is single and lives in New York City.
